Giants RB Cam Skattebo Admits He Contemplated Retirement During Injury Rehab

New York Giants rookie RB Cam Skattebo is a tough customer. Fans have seen Skattebo plow his way through defenders time and time again this year. He’s developed quite the reputation as one of those bowling-ball RBs who charges at defenders with disregard to his own body.

It would appear that Skattebo doesn’t let anything phase him. However, Skattebo does have his moments of self-doubt.

A Promise Made, A Promise Tested

During his days in college football at Arizona State, Skattebo made himself a promise: If he ever suffered a catastrophic injury in the pros, one that could potentially derail his future in the sport and required numerous surgeries, he would hang it up.

Skattebo never thought he’d have to put that promise to the test, but that’s exactly what happened. Entering Week 8 of his NFL career, Skattebo had scored five rushing touchdowns during the 2025 campaign. His breakout rookie season had fans believing Skattebo was going to be the focal point of the Big Blue offense moving forward.

During the Giants’ Week 8 matchup with the Eagles, one bad play left Skattebo with a fractured bone, along with a dislocated ankle. He was immediately faced with a daunting decision: go through a lengthy and tedious rehab process to attempt to come back, or honor his word from his days as a collegiate ballplayer and retire?
