Barcelona star Roony Bardghji takes encouraging step in ACL recovery journey

Barcelona forward Roony Bardghji is obviously at a crucial point in his rehabilitation journey from a long-term ACL injury, which is why every little triumph with him is welcomed and encouraging to fans of the Catalan giants. The young Swedish player is improving at a steady pace since tearing his knee last month, but still has a long way to go before he resumes competitive football.

Recently, Bardghji posted a video on Instagram of himself training in water, a practice that is prevalent at the start of anterior cruciate ligament recuperations. Water-based rehab exercises allow you to get back to movement, strengthen the knee joint and build muscle without putting the demands of weight onto the painful knee. The update suggested he was doing as expected.

Barcelona have not provided a timescale for his recovery, although ACL injuries typically take months to recover from. Some players join their team weeks into the offseason, but may not be fit enough to play matches until nearly a year later.

Bardghji is still not working with the ball, nor is he training on the pitch just yet. Rather, it’s all about rehabilitating the weaker leg. After an ACL surgery, you may lose muscle mass and need exercises to improve strength and mobility to start preparing for football sessions.

The setback is particularly devastating for Bardghji, as it marks his second major knee injury to the same hamstring and is coming to the end of his junior year at the University of Miami. He was sidelined for months due to a similar injury he suffered two years ago while playing for FC Copenhagen.

Prior to the latest injury, Bardghji had been making inroads with Barcelona looking to move him away with a view to getting him a regular place in the squad. The winger was injured, and those plans were shelved, but he’s now dedicated to getting better and coming back stronger than before next time to play for Hansi Flick’s side.
