The new season of the DFB-Pokal has drawn its first match ups, with reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich getting their first taste of their new status on Sunday 13 September with a home-and-away clash against newly-promoted SV Elversberg. Matchday 3 takes place at the URSAPHARM-Arena an der Kaiserlinde, where Bayern for the first time ever will get its feet wet in the Bundesliga. The German Football League has confirmed the first four matches and times for the season.
The fixture will be more of an occassion for the one of the smallest Bundesliga’s town’s club Elversberg. Elversberg will be in front of a full house against the country’s biggest club in their home stadium, as they won their third tier promotion by beating MSV Duisburg 4-2 on penalties last weekend. Kick off goes at 5:30 p.m. CEST on September 13.
Bayern are here against Juventus to generate some momentum in the early part of this season. Vincent Kompany’s side started the Bundesliga campaign very well with a 5-1 win over Stuttgart and will first be visiting the Ruhrstadt of Schalke on Matchday 2 before heading to Elversberg. The winning teams will then be back at the Allianz Arena for Matchday 4 against Union-B.

The meeting is another milestone in Elversberg’s history. The promoted team were making headlines for their Bundesliga debut victory over Bayer Leverkusen in a 3-2 game and are proving themselves worthy to take on competition with Germany’s top teams. Another chance against one of Europe’s elite sides will be before them when they host Bayern within the next fortnight.
The meet on September 13 will be a highlight of Bundesliga Matchday 3, and it will be up to Elversberg to spell another surprise while Bayern are in the hunt for a title. The Bundesliga’s most successful club will be coming to the home of the Bundesliga newcomers, and the experienced onlookers will be looking on in wonder.
