After being voted the top talent in Major League Soccer, Major League Soccer history has been broken when Major League Soccer first-time general manager, Rafael Navarro, completes a record-breaking signing of Colorado Rapids’ roster player, St. Louis CITY SC’s record signing. The Brazil striker is part of an MLS player trade that will cost St. Louis $12 million—the largest trade amount for a player in MLS history.
The compensation could go up to $12.25 million and St. Louis may be liable for another $250,000 to be used as incentives. The Rapids will also keep a cut on how much Navarro sells his stock for, adding to their financial stake in the youngster’s future.
The 26-year-old attacker comes to St. Louis on a four-year contract, but adds an additional fifth year if the Blues extend. Navarro will continue to be a Designated Player emphasising the club’s belief that the midfielder can become a leading player in their attack.
Navarro came to Colorado on loan from Brazilian giants Palmeiras then was made a permanent signing in 2024. He spent time with the Rapids and broke up into one the most dependable goal scorers in the league. His career for the Colorado club capped at 44 goals and 16 assists, with 38 of his goals coming in the MLS.
In particular, his production in his 2026 campaign has been outstanding: Navarro has registered 10 goals in the MLS, as per the latest reporting from the league. That production made him a desirable target for St. Louis, who seek to make a Western Conference push.
The blockbuster sale would help Colorado generate some serious revenue, and is actually another huge deal that transfers ownership of Lucas Herrington out from under their feet. Now the Rapids is looking at reinvesting the investment as they are moulding their side.
The message for St. Louis is even more stronger, though: The club is prepared for big money on proven MLS talent. The pressing, link-up play and presence of Navarro along with goalscoring would prove to be a major weapon with CITY SC a signing that could produce an effect for the rest of the season.
