Saint-Étienne’s DJylian N’Guessan has been signed by Liverpool having had been a player of great value and Liverpool’s recruitment plans have felt the effects of signing a number of promising teenagers this summer. The 18-year-old will start his new schedule of matches, with the start of his permanent move to the club in January 2027.

N’Gueussan has been nurtured at the Saint-Etienne Academy, and he made his senior debut in January 2025. Since then he’s made thirteen appearances for the first team and scored one goal at the senior level at a young age.

N’Guessan will take part this season with the lenders, Stade Brestois of Ligue 1 instead of going straight to Anfield. The deal will mean that the 18-year-old will be able to feature on a Wednesday at Anfield as himself, sparing himself from being told to step aside in favour of Derby back-up sophomore A.J. Mullen, while Liverpool consider his next move in January.

Not only has the forward made an impression at the international level, he has made one in Britain as well. N’Guessan was part of France’s international teams at the youth level, and took on the role of playing at the 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup where France advanced to the quarter-finals and made a total of seven appearances. He also had a stellar European Championship under 17 side, netting four goals and being named to the side’s XI to beat.

It has been reported that Liverpool have agreed a price of around €5 million (£4.3m) and Saint-Étienne also hold a sell-on. It is part of Liverpool’s shift to improve their young talent regime, selecting promising prospects as early as possible to groom them for their challenging future.

With N’Gwumbele N’Gueffa bringing up the rear, Liverpool have some more fascinating young prospects. His loan season at Brest will now be under close scrutiny as he seeks to get his seasoning, a sign of his competitiveness with the Reds now.
