Erling Haaland was born to Alf-Inge Haaland on July 21, 2000, in Leeds, England, when his father was playing for Manchester City. The son has made it impossible to replace the father in the Etihad, as the father himself had never been able to do, 25 years later.
The figures are not estimates. They are documentation. Haaland has scored 26 goals with 8 assists in 34 appearances in the 2025-26 season in the Premier League with Manchester City. He has scored 37 goals in 50 games in all competitions. He had scored 150 goals for the club in January 2026. Accomplishing the feat in early December 2025, he is now the fastest to reach 100 goals in the Premier League. Not expectations broken. They are documents re-created.
The Road Not Taken

The professional journey of Haaland has been a planned improvement pattern across the levels of development in Europe. His father also had his beginning with the youth system in his hometown club in Norway, Bryne, with which he started. He moved to Molde and signed up with Ole Gunnar Solskjær in February 2017 at the age of 16. He scored in his debut on April 26, 2017, in one of his Norwegian Cup matches against Volda TI. In 2018, he became the highest scorer in Molde with 16 goals in 30 games in all competitions, and was the recipient of the Eliteserien Breakthrough of the Year.
In January 2019, he was recruited by Red Bull Salzburg. August 10, 2019, in Wolfsberger AC was his first hat-trick. On his competition debut, on September 17, 2019, he scored a hat-trick in the first half, and he is the only player to do so in the Champions League. He became the second teenager and only the second to score in his first three games in the Champions League, and the second after Karim Benzema managed to do the same. He had 28 goals in 22 games in Salzburg.
He was transferred to Borussia Dortmund in January 2020, reportedly for an amount of €20 million. He officially debuted in the game against Augsburg on January 18, 2020, when he came on in a 3-1 defeat, scoring three in 23 minutes, assisting the team in securing a 5-3 victory. He became the first Bundesliga player to score five goals in the first two matches, and it took him only 56 minutes. He played 40 club games in total in all competitions in his first 6 months in Salzburg and Dortmund and scored 44 goals.
He also scored 41 goals in total competitions in 2020-21 and won the fan-voted Bundesliga Player of the Season, and was the top scorer in the Champions League (10 goals). In 2021, he won the DFB-Pokal, assisting in the victory in the final game against Leipzig, 4-1.
The Manchester City Era
In July 2022, Haaland was contracted by Manchester City at an annual fee of €60 million (£51.2 million). His first season, the 2022-23 campaign, has made him the highest goal-scorer in one season in the Premier League. Another record was that he had 52 goals in every competition. He won the Premier League Golden Boot, European Golden Shoe, and the Gerd Müller Trophy. He has been awarded UEFA Men’s Player of the Year and was a runner-up in the Ballon d’Or. City was a three-time continental winner: Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.
The 2023-24 season saw a second straight Premier League Golden Boot, with 27 goals. As of 2024-25, the Premier League had 22 goals and totaled 34. The 2025-26 season has reported 26 goals in the Premier League, 8 in relation to assists, 8 in the Champions League, and 3 in the FA Cup in 10, 10, and 3 matches respectively.
The International Weight
In 2019, Haaland played in Norway’s senior team for the first time. He has the highest number of goals scored in Norway, with 55 goals in 48 appearances. He is the fastest player to get 50 international goals, and he achieved this in 46 matches. In 2019, he scored a record nine goals in one game by winning the Golden Boot in the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup against Honduras.
The Expectations Keep Breaking

All the steps of Haaland’s career were the same pattern: arrival, adaptation, and acceleration, even more than was possible on the level to which it had been suggested. In Molde, he was a child who was able to score against adult professionals. He was a hat-trick specialist in the Champions League in a few months at Salzburg. His debut season was the first at Dortmund, where he was made a Bundesliga Player of the Month. At City, he established a few records, which long lingered to become legends.
This trend is observed in the 2025-26 season. Having become the first to have a single 202425 season attendance gain in the slack period when his total of 100 and 150 Premier League goals had stagnated, and injury cut short his spring, he then scored his 100th and 150th Premier League goal since joining Manchester City by far the shortest time of any player to do so in the club history, and went on to score at more than an average rate in his fourth season.
Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, was a player with Manchester City from 2000 to 2003 but had to retire due to a chronic, unrelated injury in his left knee. The shirt is also the same one that the son is wearing. The son has not only set more goals than his father did throughout his career, but he has also achieved more goals than his father. It was never expected to be similar to his father. They were considering all precedents over.
