Liverpool’s medical department keeps things under careful management as a few key players slowly get past their physical hiccups the usual but still. Managerial updates have also given a bit more clarity on what happens next for the long-term rehabilitation staff, plus the short term niggles that can mess with first-team squad choices.

Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez keeps moving through his rehabilitation after picking up a knock during Liverpool’s opening pre-season match earlier this summer. The versatile defender had to come off early in July, and afterward he missed the first chunk of the current campaign while he was assessed and doing physical therapy. The medical team is following a steady, controlled rehab process to avoid any worsening, and his return is being checked week by week, nothing rushed.

Hugo Ekitike

Hugo Ekitike is facing a longer road, after he suffered a severe ruptured Achilles tendon during a Champions League fixture back in April. After surgery went well, the French forward has now stepped into the extended physical recovery stage. The club has deliberately avoided sticking a hard, high-pressure clock on his match fitness, though management still signaled confidence in his eventual availability by including him in Liverpool’s European squad for the league phase. Achilles repairs usually take time and this reflects that, basically.

Federico Chiesa

Federico Chiesa has had some minor physical setbacks that have interfered with his usual rhythm in first-team selection. The Italian winger was sidelined because of a back issue- which ruled him out of recent league games. He’s now receiving specialized care to settle the discomfort. While it’s not expected to turn into a long-term problem, the coaching staff have decided to focus on full structural recovery first, before he’s eased back into high intensity match play.
