Messi again shows his brilliance on the big stage, according to a Daily Mail Reporter. Lionel Messi again proved why he is one of the greatest as he scored and assisted as Inter Miami CF beat Mexican club Cruz Azul 2-0 in the 2026 Campeones Cup match at a packed DRV PNK Stadium. The annual competition between the MLS champs and Liga MX champs ended up as yet another winning parade for the Argentine genius in South Florida. The game opened up in the 24th minute after teammate Luis Suárez made his way into the right wing area and then made a finesse pass towards the box.
Messi rose remarkably high above his marker to head a missile past Mexico keeper Kevin Mier, and Miami was 1-0 up.

It was the 100th goal for Messi since arriving at Miami in July 2023 from Paris Saint-Germain in his 115 appearances in all competitions. It was his first goal for the side against the team against whom he scored his first goal for Miami. Cruz Azul fought for a draw in the exciting match that saw 17 shots being taken, but the team from Miami defended well, and Messi extended their lead by the 81st minute. After being delivered a perfect corner, the veteran delivered a perfect pass to Casemiro, who nodded home from an unmarked position at the back post with a header.
The win gave Miami their fourth silverware since Messi’s arrival, following the 2023 Leagues Cup, 2024 Supporters’ Shield, 2025 MLS Cup, as well as this trophy, to take their total number of major trophies to a record 49 for club and country.
