Inter Miami CF grabbed a real decisive win in the Campeones Cup, beating Cruz Azul 2-0 at Nu Stadium, Florida, it felt big from the start. The whole night was basically about sharp execution and, a landmark moment for the club’s captain.
Match breakthrough

For a while the game stayed tight, even with the early back-and-forth, until about the twenty-fourth minute. That’s when the score situation finally broke open. Luis Suárez sent in a careful cross from the byline, and Lionel Messi got up for a rare diving header that beat the Cruz Azul goalkeeper. The goal was also Messi’s one-hundredth official score for Inter Miami across all competitions, and it makes him the quickest player in Major League Soccer history to hit that number. So yeah, not just a goal, but a record too.
Securing the advantage
In the second half, Miami kept their spacing really disciplined, staying organized, while still protecting the defensive shape. Pretty early in that period, Messi nearly made it 2-0 after slipping past the rival backline, but the follow up was flagged offside, and it just didn’t count. Cruz Azul then pushed forward to chase parity, and they almost did it when substitute Gabriel Fernandez met the ball with a header that struck the goalpost. Still though, Dayne St. Clair and the Miami back line held firm, and the clean sheet stayed intact, for better or worse.
Milestone assist
With the game basically rolling toward the last ten minutes, Miami started turning pressure into something more final. In the eighty-first minute, Messi picked out a precise corner into a packed penalty area. Casemiro met it and sent a- low header into the far side of the net. That goal more or less sealed it, a real match-clinching moment that completed the story with both a historic goal and a key assist to match.
Trophy triumph
When the final whistle came, it was 2-0 and that was it, Inter Miami had their first-ever Campeones Cup title. It also stopped a multi-year stretch where Mexican Liga MX clubs had been taking the trophy in that cross-border competition. So yeah, another piece of silverware for Inter Miami’s franchise history, and another historic milestone for their iconic Argentine forward.
