Transfer deadline windows might be closed for the moment, but the drama never truly sleeps in the football world. The latest sensational rumor floating around involved Manchester United’s 15-year-old prodigy, JJ Gabriel, and a potential dream move to sunny Spain. The highly rated teenager took everyone at the Maracana a few days ago by asking to leave his place of birth and sent shockwaves rolling through Old Trafford after a superb hat-trick in his UEFA Young League debut. The rumor mill quickly started to go into overdrive with the English star being associated with just about every other big name in Europe, including Barcelona.
But, as you might have been picturing the youngster in the iconic Blaugrana jersey, it may be high time to ease up. Barcelona’s sporting director Deco didn’t hesitate to get involved in the rumors and dumped ice water on the transfer. The former midfield wizard simply put the cat among the pigeons, stating firmly that the Catalan side is not actively considering the youngster. The speculation was dismissed as yet another “big-name clubs get dragged into player drama” by Deco, who added that it was something they had seen countless times.

The club isn’t interested in falling into the messy contract wrangling or uncertain situations. Deco finds himself in with underage players on other teams, he said. He emphasized that Barcelona needs to fully understand the legal and contractual circumstances surrounding any player before even considering a move. He said that no one in the club is interested in Gabriel’s feud with Manchester United, and that just isn’t their problem.
So, where does this leave the English wonderkid? While a trip to Camp Nou appears off the table for now, Gabriel certainly won’t be short on alternative suitors across Europe. His situation is being closely monitored by his powerhouses, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich, who are all believed to be in the running for his signature as he nears 16. For now, United fans can breathe somewhat easier, as there’s no sign Barca is playing any role in the saga of the talented youngster, but it’s far from over.
