It’s been a busy summer for clubs in Europe’s top five leagues (England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France) with rumours, sagas, drama, negotiations and deals galore. But as of this moment the summer transfer windows are officially shut with clubs now unable to sign new players until the winter.

Summer is now officially over and the focus can now return to the business of football. Some clubs will be starting the new season full of optimism with the signings of big new players giving them added hope for the season ahead, whilst others will be thinking of deals that fell through and players they missed out on. Those players that moved in the summer will now have to settle in to new teams, new tactics and new cities and their fellow club-mates that stayed put will be bracing themselves for yet another tough nine months.

It’s been a hectic business with deals falling through at the last minute, careers and family’s upturned on their heads at the drop of a hat. Veterans have taken up new challenges on free transfers and youngsters have moved to bigger and better things. They all have their own transfer stories whether it be ambition, need or just wanting a fresh start.

But now the summer transfer window has shut and with it the rumours should quieten down. Attention will now return to the training ground for weary managers and supporters will once again start to build up expectations. It’s time for the long slog to start again. The deals are done; all that’s left to see is whether or not they paid off. All that matters now is football, the games and the goals.
