Saudi Pro League were certainly a big draw in the 2026 summer transfer window with each side continuing to bolster their ranks after the main European Leagues shut their markets. In contrast to earlier reports that suggested that Saudi clubs can keep transacting players in September, the official registration period for the 2026-27 Saudi Pro League summer transfer window ended on 6th September 2026.
According to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, the first registration period for the pro league is from July 22 through Sept. 6. The next session registration occurs during the winter session, run from January 3 to January 31, 2027.
The Saudi window still allowed for some action for clubs once several top clubs in Europe had shut their doors. With most of the major European League’s summer windows opened by the close of the season in June, September 1st marked the end of the window for top three clubs Premier League, La Liga and Serie A and Ligue 1 teams to make transfers with the Saudi side having some time to wrap up deals with the teams from the three continents. The later deadline has created an opportunity for the Saudi market to be an important place for late transfers to be conducted.

The final few days of the window were hectic. According to Saudi Pro League (SPL) officials, a number of transactions took place within the deadline period, including the signing of Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer with Al Ittihad. Having to abandon the competition at the hands of Al Ettifaq, the midfielder made his comeback.
Now, the attention of the clubs must be on introduction and team management of their new recruits as opposed to summer recruitment. Players are not signed to clubs may still find a way to join the team depending on the provisions of any applicable registration rules, while Saudi Pro League teams will have to wait until the winter window for another standard provision for them to sign registered players.
