Cristiano Ronaldo suffered his biggest loss since his departure to Al Nassr when Al Ain defeated the Saudi Pro League champions 4-0 in their opening AFC Champions League Elite game in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday. The loss was an absolute nightmare return to Asia’s biggest club competition for the Portuguese club, who were beaten by a Houssine Rahimi brace as well as goals from his brother Soufiane Rahimi and Giorgos Giakoumakis. Houssine Rahimi capitalised on a loose pass back by Saad Al Nasser to score in the 25th minute before Soufiane Rahimi completed the scoring with a third after 72 minutes.

Cristiano Ronaldo suffered his heaviest loss since arriving at Al Nassr after Al Ain dealt the Saudi Pro League side a 4-0 AFC Champions League Elite defeat in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday. It was a nightmare homecoming to Asia’s premier club competition for the Portuguese club, who succumbed to a Houssine Rahimi double while his brother Soufiane Rahimi and Giorgos Giakoumakis also scored. Houssine Rahimi put the home side ahead in the 25th minute when he capitalized on a poor pass-back by Saad Al-Nasser, before doubling the home team’s lead in the 63rd minute, with Soufiane Rahimi adding the third in the 72nd minute.
5 minutes: Giorgos Giakoumakis adds the fourth and final goal in the 85th minute after Soufiane Rahimi provided a rolled ball, which the Greek striker tucked inside the near post.
That was Ronaldo’s worst defeat since his move to Al Nassr, following a team of players from another team. Ronaldo played from the start with teammate new signing Joo Flix but was unable to stop his team from the inevitable defeat. And a clear reminder of how the Portuguese player’s side crashed out in the quarter-finals of last season’s edition of the AFC Champions League against Al Ain. “We knew it was going to be tough, we had to give it our all, and I think we did that,” said Al Ain’s Giakoumakis.
“We were really mature from the first to the last moment, and we managed to score a good number of goals and a good victory.”
The defeat means Al Nassr have no points after the first round of the 2026/27 AFC Champions League Elite League stage, as Al Ain start on three points.
