It still gives Dani Olmo goose bumps when he talks about it. The midfielder reflects on the exact moment he knew Spain were world champions while at Barcelona’s training base. Every part played a part in coming to the reality: the final whistle, the trophy lift and the hugs with family. He still says the weight hasn’t all sunk in yet.
The Moment It Sank In
Olmo has said that “In the last minutes it’s impossible to feel it.” “When the whistle blows you ask yourself, have we done it! When you lift the cup, a little more. And then when you see the families” He recalls hugging Ferran Torres’s mother, both in tears. A player that was not used to crying, cried.
The World Cup victor is another type of winner. This meant he treated the 2010 team ‘Iniesta-Xavi-Busquets-Villa’ as heroes during his childhood. Now he is a member of that prestigious club. “It transforms you, it transforms your life,” he says. “We don’t understand it fully, yet; we will get it with time.”
From National Glory to Club Ambition

That’s why I consider it to be a moment of glory for Barcelona,” says Olmo. Several world champions are on the team to build trust. A club season that culminated in the ultimate international prize has given a continuity between Spain and Barcelona: players who know how to win and they have the same desire.
It is clear that the next objective is the Champions League. The World Cup has turned things around for Olmo and his teammates – and for them. The goosebumps remain.
