Chelsea complete stunning turnaround as Palmer leads nine goal thriller against Leeds

The Blues bounced back to make a fine comeback on stalemate Carabao Cup third-round victory over Leeds United 6-3 at Stamford Bridge on September 9th, 2026.

But they put the visitors out of field after half-time as Leeds finally got hold of them to clear them to their own end with a pair of goals from Tarik Muharemovic and Brenden Aaronson. It was a game in which Chelsea had flogged their problems with their backs to the wall and at the interval had substituted four players including Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Pedro Neto.

Palmer took the volley right out of the game immediately. However, the Chelsea attacker put the game on ice in two minutes – firing a penalty finish and coming up with a composed finish from outside the box to draw his team level. Pedro Neto then did the rest to twist things around and find Chelsea in front after just an attacking duel.

With the hosts still exploiting Leeds’ defence, Morgan Rogers sat comfortably with the ball to find the back of the net three times in the offensive build-up, making three assists. Leeds found a late consolation goal to complete the 6-3 score, whilst Danny Welbeck joined the sisters with two goals.

It was a case of the game that showed how much impact substitutes can have when it mattered in a high-pressure cup tie. Chelsea’s second half of the match was one of goals – and they put it right after they found themselves in a difficult situation – to make it a winning effort and advance to the next round of the Carabao Cup.

This was heavily weighted with the two goals that made it seem Chelsea had come back from their struggles with Palmer, who made a big difference. It also showed the power of attacking quality and change of formation in an 85 minutes football game.
