Following the upheaval and frenetic pace during the summer transfer window, the Championship has returned to business as usual, with attention now focusing on league football. Another hectic transfer window for England has ended at 11pm on September 1 with the conclusion of the transfer window. Clubs are now able to prioritise building teams that they created for the 2026/27 campaign.
The depths of the transfer window can turn Championship teams upside down. But now managers don’t have to deal with all the rumours and players can focus on their own jobs within a set team and working out what they will do when they are needed. New players also get to get up to speed on their team and teammates during a more challenging time of the season.
It’s just the first few games of the Championship that have already given us competitive contests and ample goals. Recent games have been a variety with Middlesbrough at Norwich, Southampton at Bristol City and Watford at Stoke City, a testament to the challenges some could be facing in the division.
Activity continued to be intense late in the day reshaping teams. For instance, sheffield unitd loaned defender Liam Kitching from Coventry city for the season and also lent Oliver Dovin and Raphael to Coventry. The moves can shape team compositions as squads get ready for a lengthy season.
Transfer business is now on hold and focus will now be on the pitch. All the points count in the coming season as clubs strive to push near the top or lift up to a better position, or avoid dropping to the bottom. The Championship calendar develops the squad strength and consistency through a busy season before leading up to the cup season.
