Manchester United’s summer window did not end completely at 11 pm on Tuesday. The Premier League deadline went by without much drama, but the club did continue the negotiations in the coming days. The second post-deadline confirmation is now in the bank, with a midfielder joining Old Trafford as the club continues to revamp the hub of their midfield.
Building Depth in the Middle of the Park
Midfield was certainly the major focus of the summer. With Casemiro gone and doubts still lingering over other targets, United had a head start on the likes of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans before Casemiro’s successor was added later in the window, in the shape of Carlos Baleba. It’s further depth, as Michael Carrick has joined the engine room as another option as the season settles.
Certain offers will involve paperwork, which takes more time than the headline date, usually if clearance is required in another country. It’s a new beginning for the player at one of the largest clubs in English football. For United, it is another phase of their systematic rebuild of a position that required strengthening.
Settling In and Looking Ahead
There is always a transition phase for new entrants, where they need to learn the processes, know people, and win their trust and cooperation. Carrick will now need to fit the new players in without upsetting the balance that is beginning to form. On deadline day, United did not believe in chasing every rumour, and decided to stick with what they had in place.
The extra midfield import is an indication that squad moulding is not necessarily complete at the sound of the clock. The focus now shifts fully to the pitch.
