Manchester City have transformed their engine room into a powerhouse before the start of the new season, investing huge sums into three big names that have been purchased to find their new midfield lynchpin. City’s most significant – and expensive – acquisition during their ambitious summer recruitment has been a blockbuster deal for Argentina international midfielder Enzo Fernández from Premier League rivals Chelsea, an astonishing 146m deal that brought a World Cup-winning talent into the City ranks. It represents the biggest statement of intent from City’s recruitment team so far, bringing deep-lying vision and creative distribution to City’s midfield factory room and providing Guardiola with a box-to-box midfield machine of World Cup-winning quality.

But Fernández was not the only notable name to arrive through the City doors this summer, with Elliot Anderson also leaving the club in a huge 135m venture to bring a promising young attacking anchor into the City fold – one who boasts the all-action energy, physicality and multi-functional dynamic creativity that will be vital across a variety of tournaments and seasons.

And he was not even the only outlay City splashed big money on this summer, with £95m spent on the highly-rated Ayyoub Bouaddi to bolster their engine-room armoury even further. With this huge £375m+ combined financial blast, City have added a £146m World Cup winner, a £135m all-action motor, and a £95m versatile pass-master to unleash their domination this season-along with endless miles of engine-room power.
