One of the most difficult things in football is to defend the Champions League. Only in the modern age of UEFA has Real Madrid achieved it – and three times in a row. PSG now has nine days to play until they can be a party in such a dialogue.

The holders won a semifinal that was a matter of everything by 6-5 on aggregate, with a goal in injury-time by Harry Kane, which came too late to save the Germans. PSG was victorious in it through a 1-1 draw in the Allianz Arena, having won the first leg 5-4 in Paris. This was not done in an orderly manner by Luis Enrique’s side. But they did it.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been the man at the center of all things. PSG is led on the scoring sheets in this campaign by the 25-year-old Georgian winger, with 10 Champions League goals, and has been a part of the goal after the goal in the knockout round, sending Chelsea back home, smashing 8-2 on aggregate in the round of 16, and setting up the final goal in Munich three minutes into the second leg. He became the first in the history of the Champions League to score or assist in seven knockouts by teeing up Ousmane Dembélé at the Bayern stadium.

The semifinal was interspersed with the words of PSG defender Willian Pacho, who said: What makes us a team is our mentality. Our forwards help us, and we help our forwards to attack.

PSG became 11th in the league phase, which is not in line with their standard, but a totally different team has appeared in the knockout rounds. This team is full of experience of winning it last season in Munich against Inter Milan. That title-winning team is to start in Budapest with ten outfielders. They are aware of how this night is. It is not simply a trifle.

Arsenal: 20 Years to Go

This is personal to Arsenal. Their appearance in the final of the Champions League was the last time they participated in 2006, when they lost to Barcelona in Paris. Whole generations of Arsenal fans have become accustomed to watching their team get as far as this. It was two weeks ago, on an Emirates rainy night against Atlético Madrid, that Bukayo Saka struck home with the rebound in the 44th minute, and 20 years of waiting turned out to be almost too good to be true.

I do not think we can overestimate what we have done on this competition so far, said Declan Rice, who that night was the Player of the Match. The most prestigious is the Champions League, and it is a proud moment for the club and the boys.

The knockout of Real Madrid in the quarterfinals would send it, and two fantastic first-leg free-kicks by Rice would spearhead it, the ensuing goals of Saka and Gabriel Martinelli ensuring it at the Bernabéu. They had also earlier defeated Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16, 3-1 on aggregate. Arsenal had finished the league phase, having survived the entire process with a record of eight wins out of eight as it became the only team to register maximum points, with a total of 24 out of 24 points.

All this has been based on their defense. The foundation of this project by Manager Mikel Arteta was on power and possessing a defense that is sound defense, and this has passed even the worst of tests that Europe has to offer. Saka is in the form of his life. All season, Rice has been the motor of the midfield.

A win in Budapest in the case of Arsenal would mean that the club would become the 25 th trophy winner. Since 2023 is the first time an English club has won it since then, Manchester City. Arteta is among the young coaches of the game who would cement his place among the top coaches.

The Final

PSG are the bookmakers’ favorites – the holders, the finalists of the past, the team of Kvaratskhelia, the shape of his career. Arsenal are the underdogs in this match, as throughout the competition, they have been the most stable team, with their defense smothering anybody they have come across.

Kickoff will take place at 6 p.m. CET on Saturday, May 30, at the Puskas Aréna. When these clubs last faced off in a semifinal of the Champions League, PSG prevailed. The Arsenal does have long memories. Nine days later, Budapest makes his decision.
